The by-laws of the non-profit organization dictate that a majority vote must be passed by members who choose to vote at the General Assembly Meeting to validate the Boards of the organization.

The Executive Board is appointed by the Board of Trustees and its members will be announced at the General Assembly Meeting.

Q&A:

Q: Do I have to come to the General Assembly Meeting?
A: No, but we encourage it.
Q: Why are you having a General Assembly Meeting?
A: As a non-profit organization, the by-laws and standards state that a general
assembly meeting must be held and recorded at least once a year for its members, or in
the event of any major changes to the organization.
Q: Do we have to vote at the General Assembly Meeting?
A: The standards and by-laws of non-profit organizations state that the general
assembly must vote on any changes to the Board of Trustees or the formation of new
boards, through a general assembly voting process. The vote is passed by a majority.
Q: If there is only one group, why do we have to vote?
A: Since the board of AKBA changed, it requires a vote by the General Assembly to make
it official. Even if only one person shows up to vote, it still counts as a majority vote and
is passed. This year’s voting for the Board of Trustees is simply a formality and a
practice for future General Assembly meetings. Nonetheless will qualify as an official
General Assembly meeting.

A general assembly meeting also helps the Board of Trustees to gauge the interest and concerns between AKBA and the community, we encourage your company as we will share some of our programs and events for the upcoming year.

Soon, AKBA will establish a database for members to have individual online accounts for AKBA and make it easy to update/renew memberships, receive automatic updates, and register for events! As you know AKBA is a non-profit community organization and the membership drive truly helps us gauge the amount of support we have from the community and how to plan for the year ahead. That being said, AKBA doesn’t belong to any of the boards, it belongs to you, the General Assembly. We urge you to be involved, not just in the election process, but year-round as volunteers and peers.
